Hi I have seen several other posts but none have answered the question I have. My wife and I want to set up several webcams in our home to keep an eye on our new born child while we are at work and we have someone watching him. We have 2 Logitec webcams and one Laptop with a built in webcam and we are also considering buying a few wireless webcams.

What I need to know is exactly which software do I need. (Right now it looks like Campermanent since my wife wants me to record it) Ok so I will start with Campermanent do I only need one copy of it? I tried looking at the instructions but I could not figure out what exactly I needed to get everything to work. Here is what what we will have and want to do.

We will have three computers with webcams attached to them and also lets say 3 wireless webcams. We want to be able to watch them from our workplace and to also record the videos. Can you explain which software I will need to accomplish this? (Do I need to buy multiple copies of it?)

Hi,

I haven't used CamPermanent so I can't comment much on that but I think CamUniversal can also do what you want. I think CamPermanent and CamUniversal are very similiar but CamPermanent is more aimed towards continuous video recording and has some extra features for this. Both products can be set to record video or take photos via a scheduler and or on motion detection, or even via command from the internet.

Maybe Marc will explain in more detail the advantages of CamPermanent video recording vs. CamUniversal video recording!

For either product you will need to setup a PC as video server and network server. With the sample html pages that come with the software you can then setup remote control for the cameras, record, start motion detection etc via html. (There's a bit more to setup outside of the Crazy pixles software to get it to work: dynamic dns service, virtual server, webspace for camera control html page etc... its not too difficult.)

You will need one full version of the software on the main PC and the others that are just acting as clients can use the trialware. When you click on the link to download the trialware the restrictions are listed. Using the trialware as a client to send video images to the central server isn't restricted. Hopefully, Marc can confrim this.
